2.3.2.   Secondary loss

 

 

This is due to friction on the casing wall and on the blade root and tip. It is a boundary layer effect and therefore dependent upon the same considerations as those for profile loss. Figure 1.14 shows how the interaction of the boundary layer phenomenon between tip and casing and between root and shaft, creates the secondary flows A and B.
