8.1   Journal bearings

 

The purpose of a turbine bearing is to retain the rotor system in its correct radial position, relative to the cylinders, and to provide a low friction support which will withstand the static and dynamic loads of shaft rotation, together with the frictional and conducted heat, and to remain free from maintenance except at major outages.
