6.3.2 HP exhausts
HP exhausts are arranged in such a way as to keep the cold exhaust steam away from the hot inner casing to reduce temperature differentials and stresses.
Hence, on double-casing machines, a baffle is used and all the exhausts are at one end. They are usually in the bottom half to facilitate dismantling. On triple-casing machines, where the inner casing is protected by the barrel casing, it is possible to have exhausts at all four bottom corners of the lower casing.
