5.3.3  ┬áBaumann exhaust

A special type of exhaust blading, invented by Dr Baumann, has been used by one manufacturer in order to achieve greater exhaust area without undue lengthening of the blades of the last moving row.

Known as the 'multi-exhaust', it used two-tier blades for the penultimate stage, steam from the outer tier exhausting directly to vacuum. The net result was that, without lengthening the blades of the last row, but by lengthening those of the previous row, the leaving loss was appreciably reduced.
