1.4 Component design parameters
To determine the physical sizes of the various components used in the feed system the flows, pressures and temperatures must be known.
These are provided by the turbine manufacturer in the form of a series of heat balances which cover the whole of the range of expected cycle operation. As the design point for a component may be other than constant maximum rating (CMR) conditions, it is important that the whole spectrum of operational duty is examined by the manufacturer before the component is designed. From the heat balances, the most appropriate design conditions for each part of the system are determined, and the value and cost of special provisions to maintain unit output under abnormal conditions is evaluated. The physical design of the individual components is discussed in detail in Section 5 of this chapter.
